BLUE CLOWNS

BLUE CLOWNS

Decorate a table with a few of these jolly clowns at a circus-themed party.

SUPPLIES

balloon pump

2 medium round teal balloons

2 red water balloons

scissors

adhesive dots

black dot stickers or permanent marker (see General Balloon Crafting Tips)

1 red twisty balloon

2 coffee filters, dyed blue or teal

1 teal twisty balloon

1. To make the head and body, inflate one medium teal balloon slightly for the head. Inflate the other medium teal balloon entirely for the body. Slightly inflate one of the red water balloons for the nose, trim the knot, and stick it to the head balloon with an adhesive dot or two. Stick on the dot stickers as eyes or draw on with a permanent marker (see here for eye techniques). To make the mouth, barely inflate the red twisty balloon, knot it to the desired mouth size, and trim the knot. Stick it to the face with two adhesive dots.

2. To make the collar, cut out the center of a dyed coffee filter.

3. To make the hat, cut a dyed coffee filter in half. Inflate the second red water balloon slightly so that you have a small ball, and knot it. Stick the ball to the center of the straight-cut side of the coffee filter with an adhesive dot. Form a cone by overlapping the two halves of the straight edges around the knot of the balloon, and stick the seams together with an adhesive dot. Attach to the top of the head with another adhesive dot or two.

4. Adhere the collar to the top of the medium body balloon with adhesive dots. Adhere the head to the body balloon through the hole in the collar on top of the body.

5. To make the base, inflate a teal twisty balloon and curve it into an O-shape. Hold it in place before knotting to see if the round bottom of the clown’s body will rest inside the O. Adjust the size, if necessary, tie off, and adhere the ends together with an adhesive dot. Affix the bottom of the clown to the base with adhesive dots.
